Joyce A. Hatfield-Wise, Esquire

Ms. Hatfield-Wise is the first full-time Solicitor for the Washington County Children and Youth Social Service Agency and has held this position since January 1998. She is a member of the Pennsylvania and Washington County Bar Associations. Ms. Hatfield-Wise is admitted to practice law before the Pennsylvania courts, the U.S. District Court of the Third Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Hatfield-Wise has served as the Chair of the PBA Children’s Rights Committee and as an active member on many of its subcommittees. Locally, Ms. Hatfield-Wise has served as an elected member of the Executive Committee of her county bar association and for fifteen (15) years as Co-Chair of its Law Day Committee. In February of 2005, Ms. Hatfield-Wise accepted an award from the American Bar Association on behalf of the Washington County Bar Association for its Law Day programming. Before entering practice, Ms. Hatfield-Wise served as a Law Clerk for a judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Washington County. She provides ongoing court training to child welfare staff and foster parents. She has presented or planned continuing legal education courses offered by the Community College of Allegheny County, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Washington County Bar Association, the AOPC Office of Children and Families in the Courts, and the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Solicitors Association. Ms. Hatfield-Wise received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Duquesne University School of Law in 1997. She has also earned a Master’s Degree in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, a Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991, and a Bachelor of Science Degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1987. She is one of the original incorporators of the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Solicitors Association and has served as its Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, and President. She is the Immediate Past-President. Ms. Hatfield-Wise is Co-Founder of ChildFirst Pennsylvania, a statewide forensic interviewing and court preparation training program made possible by the Solicitors Association in collaboration with the PA District Attorneys Association and through a host site agreement with the Pennsylvania State Police. In November of 2011, Ms. Hatfield-Wise was honored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association and named “Government Lawyer of the Year.” Also, in 2011, Ms. Hatfield-Wise was presented with the John L. Northrop Vocational Service Award by the Rotary Club of Washington County. The award included a $1000.00 donation to the charity of her choice – Girl Scout Troop 50556. In October of 2013, Joyce was presented with a Community Education Award by the League of Women Voters of Washington County for Community Education Service for the Development of Educational Programs for Professionals, the Public and the Washington County Bar Association. Upon a unanimous recommendation by the Professionalism Committee and approval by the Board of Directors, in November of 2013, the Washington County Bar Association presented Joyce with a Certificate of Meritorious Services for her many years of dedicated service in providing law-related public education programming on behalf of the Bar Association. In January 2014, Joyce will attend the 33rd annual National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law on a scholarship from the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Federal Court Section and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania’s Attorney Admissions Fund. Also, in January 2014, Joyce will begin a new three year term as an elected member of the Board of Directors for the Washington County Bar Association.
